The choir has been in existence over 50 years, they started at approximately the same time as the Guild. There are around 12 members, covering sopranos, altos and bass. We normally meet on Thursdays from 7.30pm till approx. 9.30pm. If there is a Board or Session Meeting on the Thursday we move practice to a Tuesday.
Every week we sing an Introit which we choose approximately 3 months in advance by checking diaries to see if there are any special occasions nearest to the Sunday or if a specific hymn means something special to a choir member. We are flexible enough to alter the chosen introit if something happens in the wider world which requires something more appropriate. For example |

| on 18th January, our introit was CH4 hymn " I have a dream a man once said" chosen because of the inauguration of the new President of the USA and looking back to the well-known speech from Martin Luther King. Our repertoire extends from hymns (old and very new) to Rodger Jones cantatas and one written by members of the congreagation plus some written specially for the choir to suit a special event. We are also lucky to have members of the congregation giving us ideas which we can then use as part of our worship.
The choir has appeared on television in Songs of Praise from the Garden Festival and Strathclyde Park as well as joining in local services with other churches. Each year we are invited to perform at the Men's Club - an occasion very much enjoyed by the choir - at which we choose a different theme each year - this year the theme for the first half of the concert is Happiness - you'll need to come along on the 23rd February and find out the second half for yourself!! Over the last few years we have participated in the Junior Church's Nativity Play and enjoyed learning very modern nativity songs, some of which will appear on our introit for December 2009. We are looking into making a CD for the Building Fund and are waiting for legal advice before we go ahead and choose what we would like to sing. We can still accommodate more members who are willing to join, work hard and enjoy the laughter which is a part of our practice. |
