Annual Round Up of Property Committee Activities Looking back over our Property Committee meetings I can see we have achieved quite a lot over the year. The church and halls are used extensively and a certain amount of wear and tear always needs attention as well as ongoing improvements to the buildings. At a meeting in January we decide to go ahead with replacing the stone chips in front of the church with mono block, this being mainly to remove the ammunition tghat was being used to throw at the windows by a minority in the area. In the large hall an emergency light was fitted and in the gents toilet part of the fittings has come away from the wall due to corrosion and this was repaired. The rainy weather in January also set off the leaks in the hall roof which were also attended to. (Roll on the large hall and toilet block refurbishment!) In February we made and fitted a new pin board in Room 2 at the request of the Junior Church. A leak at the down pipe of the flat roof above the foyer was repaired and a team of willing helpers decorated the hall, stairway and landing of the Manse. As cleaning materials and chemicals were in different spaces and cupboards about the building therefore a cupboard in the ladies toilet was cleared, shelves fitted and all the materials are now stored there. March and April, the days are getting lighter, the grass is starting to grow and a team of grass cutters have had their names put on the list to come and cut the grass once or twice over the summer. Also being spring, another team of folk got together for the church and halls spring clean and our thanks go to all of these volunteers. At an earlier meeting in the year it was noted it had been a number of years since the outside of thye Manse had been painted and a coat of paont was required. Another team of volunteers got together and over a couple of weeks in the dry spells of weather this was attended to. We did paint the gates a nice bright red but after quite a few comments from passing members of the congregation these were repainted black (it's hard to please everybody!!?) In August quotes were obtained for cavity wall insulation for the Manse, this work was finally carried out in October. The Church and hall floors were cleaned and polished during the summer when most of the group activities were off. Also during the summer there were some windows broken in the foyer and one of the stained glass protective toughened glass sheets was broken, these were repaired by a contractor under an insurance claim. Of the seven stained glass windows, four now has polycarbonate protective sheets fitted and it was decided to fit polycarbonate sheets to the remaining three windows. In November these were fitted and at the next dry spell we will repaint the window frames. These are the main jobs carried out during the year on top of which there were many minor repairs such as repaint the anti vandal paint on roof, replace a couple of broken toilet seats, make and fit a second notice board for roome two, fit a replacement extractor fan in the kitchen, clear a blocked toilet, attend to the church entrance door where it was sticking, carry out an inspection of all the protable electrical appliances, replace one panel of the Manse fence that blew down in the February gales, etc. Finally a quote has been sought to complete the fitting of double glazed windows to the Manse, this has been carried out over the last three years to spread the cost. Once again thanks to the Property Team and all the other volunteers for the excellent work carried out throughout the year. Best wishes for next year, Tony Petty |
