David Tells a Happy Couple His Definition of Love
The following are some common questions that couples have:-
I want to get married at a local Hamilton Church, can I get married in Hillhouse Church?
- Yes you can.
- Anyone who lives in the parish can be married by David. In addition in cases where you want to be married in the Church but don’t live here there can be other links to the community e.g. family members which can make you eligible.
- We have even had wedding parties coming all the way from Canada to get married here by David.
Do I have to be a church member to get married in a local Hamilton Church?
- No, its not essential but the wedding ceremony is a serious commitment taken between the woman, man and God so it should not be taken lightly.
I’m divorced does that mean I can’t get married again?
- Divorce does not prevent you from being remarried but the marriage is at the discretion of the Minister so you would have to discuss it with him before planning your ceremony.
What are the legal requirements?
- When you are planning your wedding in Scotland its a legal requirement to post a wedding notice at the local council registrar (traditionally known as reading the Wedding Bands).
- In normal circumstances you should visit the registrar at least 3 months before your wedding but if you need to leave less time than this then you should contact the registrar ASAP as sometimes alternate arrangements can be made.
